    1. Health Care Reform: What Happened, What is to Come and What is Still Needed

After a lengthy partisan debate, health reform is the law of the land. Its impact will be felt in all sectors of the industry, from prescription drugs and Medicare to medical devices and employer-sponsored insurance. This came on the heels of the economic stimulus law, which included tens of billions of dollars to incentivize providers to adopt and meaningfully use electronic health records. This session will explore what happened, what’s coming next with implementation, and what’s still needed to truly transform our healthcare system to one that saves lives and saves money.

8:30-9:15: David Merritt, Executive VP and National Policy Director, will give a presentation on the Overview of Health Reform

9:15-9:45: Vincent Frakes, Federal Policy Director will give a presentation on the Implication of Health Reform on Employers. Vincent Frakes will focus on several key areas of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. First, he will discuss how the law specifically affects employers (large and small) as we move toward the introduction of the employer mandate in 2014. Additionally, he will speak to delivery reform, notably accountable care organizations and their implications on the industry.

      9:45-10:00: Break

10:00-10:45: Wayne Oliver, Vice President, will discuss the current and future trends in consumer-driven health plans. He also will adiscuss the implications of federal health reform on CDHC products and services.

    1. CDHC Certification Course

Consumer-directed health care options, including those for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), have opened a wealth of opportunities for consumers. For agents and brokers, these opportunities have created new responsibilities. Advising clients in these areas is now more difficult and time-consuming than it has been in the past.

To address the new market options, NAHU has created a new CDHC certification course. Completion of this course will ensure a strong technical knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to various types of consumer-directed health care options and proven methods for communicating those options to employers and employees in a compelling way.

The new certification program in consumer-driven health care (CDHC) is a four-hour course that provides brokers with technical, actionable information they can use to help clients consider these fast-evolving plans and implement them successfully. The class is open to employers, as well. The certification will serve as a distinction for producers as credentialed experts in the sophisticated space of CDHC.

Approved by states for insurance continuing education credits; this course:

      • Compares health reimbursement accounts (HRAs), health savings accounts (HSAs) and other plan designs
      • Considers current and projected adoption
      • Presents comprehensive guidance on eligibility, contributions and all technical elements
      • Provides two frameworks: one for selling CDHC and another for implementing CDHC, which brokers may share with employers
      • Suggests enrollment and communication strategies and tactics involves class participants in breakout discussions on ways to implement specific, hypothetical cases.

If you want to stand out among your peers and are looking for real education to improve your knowledge, this course is for you. Your clients depend on you, so make sure you have the answers.

You must be a conference registrant to add this workshop to your registration. The four-hour course is approved for four hours of insurance continuing education credit. Certification in CDHC expertise will be provided following completion of the course and an online examination with a passing grade.

Speakers: Josh Hilgers, Health Partners America and Health Partners Training.

Please Note: This certification program is brought to you by NAHU (National Association of Health Underwriters). Cost for Members is $145.00. This course is approved for insurance of continuing education credits.
