2015 Private Exchange FORUM

THE INSTITUTE FOR HEALTHCARE CONSUMERISM ANNOUNCES PRIVATE EXCHANGE FORUM BALTIMORE

ATLANTA – June 1, 2015 – In recognition of the rapidly rising role of private exchanges in employer-sponsored health and benefits, The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism (IHC) is expanding its Private Exchange FORUM conference series with the addition of a new event in Baltimore on September 1 – 2, 2015. The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism is the only organization that is 100-percent focused on helping workforce health and benefits stakeholders realize the full rewards of consumer-driven health care.

An estimated 35 to 75 million Americans will receive their employee benefits via a private exchange within the next few years. "Private exchanges are a primary catalyst for health care consumerism, and The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism is the logical champion for this essential tool for empowering employees to take charge of their health care benefits," said Doug Field, CEO of The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism.

"That’s why the IHC is leading the market with expert-led events that bring together decision-makers and influencers from across the corporate health and benefits industry to collaborate and clarify the private exchange future," Field added. "We are excited about putting this national event in the mid-Atlantic region where many employers are within a close proximity."

Given the potential impact of private exchanges and the strong demand for information about defined contribution and private exchange options, the first Private Exchange FORUM event (held in Dallas, TX on March 31 to April 1, 2015) sold out to attendees and sponsors shortly after its announcement and received rave reviews from all participants. The new Private Exchange FORUM event in Baltimore is a fresh opportunity for employers, brokers, consultants, health plans and other industry stakeholders from across the country to find the education, collaboration and access to solutions that they need to help make the right decisions going forward for their business or clients’ business.

The Private Exchange FORUM Baltimore curriculum will feature top benefits industry innovators like these below:

IHC FORUM & EXPO HITS LARGEST NUMBER OF ATTENDEES AS INDUSTRY VALIDATES HEALTH CARE CONSUMERISM

[ATLANTA – May 14, 2014] – The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism (IHC) is excited to announce that its 2014 FORUM & Expo reached a record number of attendees with approximately 800 employers, brokers, consultants, vendors, physicians and other stakeholders present at the Atlanta conference. With over 60 sponsors — including platinum and gold sponsors ConnectYourCare, WageWorks and HealthSparq — the premier health care consumerism conference also reached a new milestone for number of sponsors.

The event began on the afternoon of May 7 when two leading health economists — John Goodman, National Center for Policy Analysis, and Kenneth Thorpe, Emory University — debated the future of health care reform, representing opposing sides of the aisle respectively. The keynote event attracted considerable attention from both attendees and outside policy groups.

For the first time in its five year history, The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism’s anchor event included the perspectives of leading physicians on how to improve the U.S. health care system. Through a partnership with advocacy group Docs 4 Patient Care, the conference featured both a pre-conference workshop and general session on what physicians see as the major barriers to reducing cost and empowering patients to be true consumers of health care.

"This year’s FORUM & Expo brought together a wider range of stakeholders in the health care system than ever before in this event’s five-year history," said Doug Field, chief executive officer and founder, The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism. "Health care consumerism has clearly established itself as having a major role in the future of the U.S. health care system. In addition, a general theme of the conference was that we are moving away from strictly health insurance reform into the era of true health care reform."

Among other hot topics discussed at the conference was the emergence of private health insurance exchanges as a major disruptive force in how employer-sponsored health care is administered and delivered. In addition to multiple pre-conference sessions that addressed this theme, leading consultant John Young, chief executive officer, Consumerdriven LLC, moderated a general session panel on private exchanges that included Reese Feuerman, CFO, ConnectYourCare; Christopher Goff, CEO, Employers Health; Don Garlitz, executive director, Exchange Solutions, bswift; and Barbara Gniewek, principal, PwC.

With the completion of the fifth annual FORUM & Expo in Atlanta, The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism now turns its focus to the West Coast version of the event to be held once again at the Red Rock Resort & Spa in Las Vegas. The FORUM West event will be held from November 10 to 12, placed strategically after the crucial mid-term congressional elections.

A Rare Face-Off Between Policy Influencers John Goodman, PhD Versus Kenneth Thorpe, PhD is Scheduled as the Opening Keynote Address — “Health Reform 2.0: The Great Debate” — for the Upcoming IHC FORUM & Expo Conference

The IHC FORUM & Expo is produced by The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism

[ATLANTA – March 20, 2014] – Attendees of the 2014 IHC FORUM & Expo conference will witness a rare face-to-face debate between two of the most influential health care experts as they battle with ideas regarding the future of health reform in the United States. This event is the Opening Keynote Address of the conference and will take place May 7, 2014 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre, 2 Galleria Pkwy SE, Atlanta, GA.

“These two policy influencers have had enormous political influence on their respective sides of the aisle,” said Ron Bachman, Chairman of the Editorial Advisory Board for The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism. “Dr. Goodman has been a key thought leader for free market solutions and Dr. Thorpe who worked in the Clinton administration on ‘HillaryCare’, has been an advisor to Congress, and has been a key resource to most every Democratic presidential nominee during the last 20 years. The policy differences between these two heavy weights have been debated in the halls of Congress, national media and industry journals. They have never squared off in public on the same platform.”

The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism’s fifth annual IHC FORUM & Expo conference May 7-9th returning to the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, GA. Building on last year’s successful event, this year’s IHC FORUM & Expo includes a larger exhibitor floor, expanded program, longer networking hours and increased attendance.

“This is the only event where all stakeholders come together to collaborate on health care consumerism best practices,” said IHC Founder and CEO, Doug Field. “The 2015 plan year will be a year of major change and the IHC FORUM & Expo is well timed to help our industry learn about emerging solutions and collaborate toward ideal benefit plans. We’ll also examine whether or not Private Exchanges and Defined Contributions are working and if so, we’ll discuss the best models for various employee populations.

Stakeholders regularly attending IHC’s FORUM conference series include Employers (including CFO’s, HR Benefit Managers and Corporate Wellness Directors) Brokers, TPA’s Consultants and Regional Health Plans. At the conference, they LEARN, CONNECT and SHARE with key policy makers, industry experts and thought leaders.

Attendees have access to a full agenda of workshops, panels, general sessions and hands-on pre-conference events with peers and industry leaders. Professionals who attend the event and complete specific pre-conference coursework are also eligible for IHC’s Certified in HealthCare Consumerism (CHCC) designation testing through IHC University’s Certification Program.

Under IHC’s 2014 theme “HealthCare Consumerism: The Solution for HealthCare Reform”, attendees will take home strategies and solutions they can implement right away to increase engagement and decrease costs. Read the full list of “Attendee Takeaways”

THIRD ANNUAL IHC FORUM WEST DRAWS RECORD CROWD

[ATLANTA – December 9, 2013] – More than 400 registered participants attended this year’s IHC FORUM West conference on December 5-6 at the Red Rock Resort & Spa in Las Vegas. The largest conference produced by The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism outside of Atlanta to date, the event focused on making health care consumerism work going into 2014 and beyond.

Throughout the two-day conference, industry experts gave attendees a look into the recent open enrollment as well as an idea of the future. Numerous sessions and workshops provided in-depth information, all linking back to the central theme of making health care consumerism work.

Speakers included health care consumerism authorities such as Craig Hankins, vice president, consumer engagement products, UnitedHealthcare; Roy Ramthun, founder, HSA Consulting Services, LLC and former senior health policy advisor to President George W. Bush; and Bob Chapman, CEO, Barry-Wehmiller Companies, Inc. Chapman provided the opening key note address on “Truly Human Leadership: Inspiring Well-being in a Caring Culture”.

“I would like to once again thank all of our sponsors, speakers and attendees,” said Brent Macy, managing director of The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism. “During this chaotic time in health care, the industry gathered at FORUM West to collaborate and discuss real, actionable solutions going into 2014 and beyond.”

For many of the HR professionals at the event, it was also an opportunity for continuing education. The FORUM West general sessions and workshops were pre-approved for 11.75 recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification. Attendees could also qualify for certified health care consumerism specialist online testing in January 2013 as part of The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism’s new certification and education program.

Networking also proved to be another highlight of the event. Speakers, sponsors and attendees alike shared insights and gained business connections.

Plans are already underway for the next two conferences: the fifth-annual IHC FORUM and Expo in Atlanta May 7-9, 2014 and the IHC FORUM West in Las Vegas December 4-5, 2014. For more information, visit www.theihccforum.com.

FIS FEATURED AT THE INSTITUTE FOR HEALTHCARE CONSUMERISM’S FORUM WEST

Dr. John Reynolds, president of FIS’ Healthcare Solutions division, is scheduled to deliver event’s opening keynote address.

[ATLANTA] FIS Global, the world’s largest banking and payment technologies provider, will be an integral part of The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism’s (IHC) FORUM West 2012 conference in Las Vegas on September 6-7.

Dr. John Reynolds, FIS’ Healthcare Solutions division president, will be featured as a keynote speaker at the event’s opening general session, “The Journey to HealthCare Consumerism.” Dr. Reynolds oversees strategic marketing, sales, product development, operations and technology. His division incorporates several companies acquired by FIS, as well as other internally developed products and services. A noted employee benefits, electronic commerce and financial services thought leader, Dr. Reynolds will discuss how technology is helping to advance the adoption of health care consumerism across the country.

The conference, lauded as “the only event 100 percent dedicated to innovative health and benefit management,” focuses on helping businesses of all sizes lower health care costs, promote employee engagement regarding benefits and wellness, and comply with current laws. Health care consumerism can include the adoption of health savings accounts, incentive programs, flexible spending accounts and corporate wellness initiatives—all of which have been proven to reduce health costs and improve employee wellbeing.

“We’re thrilled to have FIS as part of FORUM West 2012,” says Doug Field, IHC founder and CEO. “Our goal every year is to invite the foremost industry leaders to speak at our event, so it was only fitting that we’d ask John to be a keynote speaker. His 25-year career and cutting-edge perspective on health care technology and finance will be invaluable to attendees.”

FIS is a gold sponsor of this year’s IHC FORUM West conference.

IHC FORUM EAST SETS RECORD NUMBER OF ATTENDEES, SPONSORS

[ATLANTA – May 24, 2013] Now in its fourth year, the Institute for HealthCare Consumerism (IHC) FORUM East conference recently set record numbers of attendees, sponsors and exhibitors as the health care consumerism movement continues to achieve rapid industry growth and unprecedented interest from employer groups.

Continuing its tenure at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, the conference boasted 52 sponsors, including gold sponsorships from Truven Health Analytics, gBehavior, InteliSpend and Target. Silver Sponsors included an array of industry leaders including Evolution1, The Jellyvision Lab, Inc., HSA Bank, ConnectYourCare, Visa Healthcare, Mercer, Cielostar, United Healthcare and Alegeus Technologies.

“The Institute would like to extend a sincere thanks to the innovative companies that exhibited with us this year,” says Brent Macy, Managing Director of the IHC. “This year’s FORUM East was a resounding success and response from the industry has been overwhelmingly positive. We could not have had such a successful show without our sponsors.”

The large turnout was in part due to the relevant nature of the event’s content. With key exchange deadlines only a few months away, employers, brokers and consultants attended in record numbers trying to grasp the upcoming changes in health benefits due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and health insurance exchanges.

Workshops covered an array of pertinent topics including “HSAs: After 2014,” “Controlling Costs and Expanding Choice Using Defined Contribution Health Care,” “Five Chronic Wellness Program Problems and How to Beat Them,” “How to Deliver Year-Round Benefits Communication” and “Consumer Engagement: The Key to a Successful Exchange.”

General sessions featured key policy thought leaders including Dr. Wendy Lynch, Roy Ramthun, John Hickman, Chris Covill, Dr. Michael Taylor, Steve Lafferty and others. Topics included “Defined Contribution and Public/Private Exchanges: a Panel Discussion with Leading Experts” and “Health Care Consumerism is Here to Stay!”

“Thank you to all of the industry leaders that took time from their schedules to speak at our event,” says Doug Field, CEO of the IHC. “Additionally, I would like to thank our moderators, including John Young, Jody Dietel and Jon Comola, themselves key industry experts who came to support the event as long-time friends of the Institute.”

With the close of a successful FORUM East event, the industry now looks to key fall deadlines for one of the most important open enrollments in the history of health benefits. And starting June 1, 2013, registration will open for the Institute’s fall event, IHC FORUM West, which will present up-to-date information on private/public exchange enrollment and key ACA deadlines.

ATLANTA HEALTHCARE CONSUMERISM CONFERENCE DRAWS ATTENDEES AND INNOVATIVE SPEAKERS IN RECORD NUMBERS
ATLANTA

[April 13, 2012] A record crowd of more than 400 HR professionals, C-level executives, health insurance brokers and solution providers arrived at the Cobb Galleria Centre, on April 12, for The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism’s (IHC, formerly CDHC Solutions) FORUM East conference. Now in its third year, the two-day event remains the only national conference solely dedicated to innovative health and benefits management. This year’s theme, “The Journey to HealthCare Consumerism,” purposed to help businesses of all sizes navigate the ever-shifting health and benefits landscape and arrive at cost-saving solutions. Its counterpart, FORUM West, will be held in Las Vegas, N.V. in October 2012.

Health care consumerism, in contrast to traditional employer-sponsored health plans, involves putting health care decision making and purchasing power into the hands of employees. This may include the adoption of health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts and corporate wellness programs—all of which have been proven to cut health care costs and boost employee wellbeing. FORUM attendees were given insights on how to implement these consumer-driven solutions, effectively communicate the policy changes to their employee consumers and comply with current health care laws.
True to the IHC’s motto, attendees had the opportunity to “learn, connect and share” with industry professionals from across the country. The FORUM’s 24 workshops and five general sessions featured noted consumerism thought leaders and subject matter experts, including Center for Health Transformations senior fellow, Ron Bachman, Altarum Center co-director, Dr. Wendy Lynch, and former policy advisor to President George W. Bush, Roy Ramthun. FORUM-goers also had the unprecedented opportunity to glean real-life leading practices from peers who have successfully adopted health care consumerism programs.

Scott Stamps, a three-year FORUM veteran, remarked on the event’s significant growth since 2010. “I see a lot more attendees and probably two or three times as many vendors, which is great,” said Mr. Stamps, a business development officer in charge of HSAs at First Federal Bank. He also lauded the FORUM’s innovative stance on consumerism and benefits management. “We’ve gone past ‘health care reform is bad’ to looking at solutions and moving forward. This is definitely the place to do that.”

“Every year, we strive to bring value by featuring the foremost innovators in the health care consumerism space,” said Doug Field, IHC founder and CEO. “I’m confident that our keynote speakers and workshop leaders left attendees with valuable takeaways and actionable solutions that’ll have an immediate impact on their companies’ bottom lines. This is the best, most well-attended FORUM we’ve had so far. I’m looking forward to FORUM West in October!”
